My experience with transfercar was horrendous... 14 hours before the scheduled pick up I was informed that my car was given away. I was already enroute to Greymouth and incurred $300 in costs changing my hotel bookings and travel plans to return to Christchurch where an alternate vehicle was arranged. I had booked a van but was given a sedan. I was never offered windscreen insurance (which I later discovered most companies offer for $5/day). This would have been very handy as the windscreen chipped on the vehicle I was relocating costing me $420. What I expected to be a mutually beneficial experience for myself and the rental company ended up costing me $720 NZD. I plan to never use this service again and will not recommend it to anyone. In fact, I’d much sooner warn people against it. Please do not hesitate to have someone follow up with me on this case as I beleive it needs rectification.

You did as you said you would but the car company change the times and the pick up place that didn’t suit my arrangements

make the booking a little more flexible, e.g. 2 days instead of exactly 48 hours, so you can pick at 12pm and drop at 2 pm or similar

The insurance policy could be made more clear

We didn't have any guidance from the hire car company about getting the van and dropping it off - by the time we had paid the train tickets from the airport to the pick up of the van, and the same when we dropped the car off we may as well have paid for a normal camper van which would have at least been clean. I was under the impression the transfer car deal got you a decent camper van for less, it probably wasn't worth it for the quality of the camper van. Thanks

No, it was very easy to pick up the car. The woman at the counter in Chch was very helpful. Office in Blenheim was closed, so we just put keys through the slot. very easy.

I found the website a little confusing. Can not put my finger on the issue but will reply again when it comes to mind.

2 days is just not enough time to relocate a camper from Auckland to Christchurch considering the road works on SH1 north and south of Kaikoura as well as the ferry crossing of 3+ hours. It was just a mad rush and no sleep so I was just working for the Company instead of having some time for a look see around. 4 days is the minimum especially with the ongoing road works on SH1 in the South Island and getting a suitably timed ferry crossing.
