We drove a Nissan Qashki from Wellington to Auckland. It was a very comfortable car and trouble free! Great to be able to break the long trip in Taupo.

We were told when we booked that we would get one free tank of gas. But when we picked up the car we were told we definitely needed to return it with a full tank of gas. So no free gas.
Also (no fault if transfercar) ww had no idea the ferry crossing would be so expensive! We heard there are other companies who pay part or all of the ferry crossing. We'll look out for that if we ever do it again.
